Living in Huai Khwang
Huai Khwang grew up along Ratchadaphisek Road. Its southern end is the Rama 9 office area, its middle centres on the Thailand Cultural Centre, and around Huai Khwang Market and Pracha Rat Bamphen Road, Chinese restaurants and signage are so common that locals call it the new Chinatown. To the east, Thiam Ruam Mit Road is mostly housing.
The MRT Blue Line is the spine, with Phra Ram 9, Thailand Cultural Centre, Huai Khwang and Sutthisan on its edge. Thailand Cultural Centre is also the planned interchange with the Orange Line. Rama 9 Road and the expressway make driving east easy.
Huai Khwang works well for office workers in Rama 9 and Ratchada, Chinese speakers, and anyone who wants the MRT on the doorstep without living in the core. Check which side of Ratchada a building is on, as U-turns take time; some sois off Pracha Rat Bamphen stay busy late; and older condos deep in sois can be a fair walk from a station.
